CATBALOGAN CITY – Reaffirming its commitment to advancing responsive and community-centered extension services, Samar State University (SSU), through the Center for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Research and Development (CFFARD), officially forged two Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) with the Philippine National Police-Maritime Group (PNP-MG) Western Samar and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas.
The signing ceremony, held at the SSU Board Room, conveneduniversity officials, agency representatives, faculty, staff, and guests to confirm their shared commitment in advancing the SAFE SEAS (Strengthening Awareness, Fisheries Empowerment, and Survival Skills for Equipped and Safe Coastal Communities) Extension Program.
The partnership with the PNP-Maritime Group Western Samar establishes a collaborative framework for the implementation of SAFE SEAS extension-related activities aimed at strengthening maritime safety awareness, maritime legal education, disaster preparedness, and community capacity-building among fisherfolk and coastal communities. Through this partnership, both institutions will jointly undertake extension programs, trainings, seminars, and advocacy initiatives that promote responsible maritime practices and safer coastal communities.
Complementing this effort, the agreement with the Philippine Coast Guard, Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas focuses on the collaborative implementation of SAFE SEAS extension initiatives centered on maritime safety, search and rescue preparedness, environmental protection, coastal resource conservation, and community resilience. The partnership also provides opportunities for technical collaboration, volunteer engagement, and capacity-building activities that support the University’s extension mission.
