MARABUT, SAMAR – Samar State University (SSU) conducted its three-day Research, Extension, and Innovation Harmonization Workshop from July 20–22, 2026 at Caluwayan Palm Island Resort, Marabut, Samar, bringing together university officials, researchers, extension practitioners, and innovation personnel to review institutional accomplishments and align future directions for 2026 and beyond.
Anchored on the theme “Reviewing Outcomes and Defining Future Directions for 2026 and Beyond,” the workshop aimed to reinforce institutional performance and advance impactful academic programs aligned with SSU’s core values: We Innovate. We Build. We Serve.
In his opening message, University President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia challenged participants to move beyond merely completing projects. “The true measure of the University’s success lies not only in the quantity of its research, extension, and innovation outputs, but in their lasting contributions to regional development and nation-building,” Dr. Palencia emphasized.
He urged all university units to strengthen to strengthen collaboration, embrace innovation, and align their initiatives with SSU’s long-term vision of becoming a transformative institution that delivers measurable societal impact. A key highlight of the workshop was a plenary lecture delivered by Cavite State University Professor, Prof. Ruel M. Mojica, titled “From Knowledge to Impact: Strategic Integration of Research, Extension, and Innovation for Development.”
Prof. Mojica reinforced the President’s message, noting that universities should move beyond measuring success solely through outputs such as publications, trainings, and completed projects. Instead, he argued, higher education institutions must focus on generating measurable outcomes that contribute to community transformation, regional development, poverty alleviation, and long-term societal impact. Throughout the three-day event, participants engaged in in team-building activities, knowledge-sharing sessions, and discussions on strengthening the University’s research, extension, and innovation agenda in support of its commitment to excellence and sustainable development.
The activity concluded with a committed to strengthening institutional monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, adopting impact-based performance indicators, and fostering greater collaboration across all units to ensure the effective implementation of the University’s strategic priorities.
