Samar Partners Launch “Guardians of the Coast” Miniature Competition

A coordination meeting was recently held to finalize the collaboration among the Province of Samar, Samar State University (SSU), and Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) for the implementation of the miniature competition titled “Guardians of the Coast: Miniature of Samar’s Fortifications,” with the award and exhibit scheduled on May 25–29, 2026.

The initiative aims to promote awareness and appreciation of Samar’s historical fortifications by engaging participants in the creative reconstruction of these cultural landmarks through miniature models. It also seeks to preserve and highlight the province’s rich heritage, foster a deeper sense of cultural identity and pride, encourage artistic expression and craftsmanship, and provide an interactive platform for learning history while supporting local tourism and heritage conservation.

During the meeting, discussions also covered the proposed “Echoes of the Coast: A Fortification Heritage Tour,” which will complement the exhibit by showcasing actual historical sites across Samar. The mechanics and guidelines of the contest, exhibit arrangements, and other related matters were presented to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative through the collaborative efforts of the partner institutions.

Cash prizes were also finalized, with Php 50,000 for the Overall Champion, Php 40,000 for the Second Prize, Php 30,000 for the Third Prize, and Php 15,000 for the Consolation Prize, aimed at encouraging participation, creativity, and excellence in the miniature reconstruction of Samar’s historical fortifications.
