SSU welcomes newly appointed Senior Leaders!

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines—Samar State University (SSU) announced its newly appointed senior leaders today, January 12, 2026, designated by SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia in a move aimed at further steering SSU to the highest heights of innovation, academic excellence, and service.

Now appointed as Vice President (VP) for Academic Affairs is Dr. Gina U. Españo (former VP for Administration and Finance), who will lead the University’s academic programs and instructional initiatives. Dr. Españo brings extensive experience in academic leadership, having served as the former Dean of the College of Education.

Dr. Felisa E. Gomba has been appointed Vice President for Research and Extension Services, where she is expected to further enhance the University’s research productivity, innovation efforts, and extension programs in support of regional and national development. Dr. Gomba was recently the former VP for Academic Affairs, and also served as the former VP for Research several years back.

Overseeing the University’s administrative and financial operations is Engr. Mirador G. Labrador (former VP for R&E), now appointed as Vice President for Administration and Finance. His leadership is expected to ensure efficient management, fiscal responsibility, and institutional sustainability.

Finally, Engr. Ma. Lourdes P. Amante reassumes the role of Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, to lead initiatives that shall promote student welfare, engagement, and holistic development across the University. Engr. Amante was recently the former VP for Administration and Finance, and has also served as the former VP for Student Affairs and Services in previous years.

The whole SSU community extends its congratulations to the newly appointed Vice Presidents as they begin their respective roles in advancing the University’s transformative efforts in academic excellence, technology and innovation, and service excellence.
