SSU faculty wins Best Research Paper at 3rd National Research Congress of the Philippines

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—Samar State University’s faculty member from the College of Industrial Technology, Mr. Ruel H. Amascual, won Best Research Paper (Professional Category) during the 3rd National Research Congress of the Philippines hosted by the Unibersidad de Zamboanga from October 9 to 10, 2025, at Garden Orchid Hotel, Zamboanga City.

Mr. Amascual’s award-winning study, titled “Detection of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) Toxin in Green Mussel (Perna viridis) Sold in Local Supermarkets in Samar, Philippines,” underscored the importance of food safety and environmental awareness in protecting public health. His research contributes valuable data to the monitoring of marine toxins, ensuring consumer safety and supporting sustainable fishing practices.

This recognition reflects SSU’s strong commitment to advancing research that aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water)—by promoting safe food systems, improving health outcomes, fostering research excellence, and advocating for responsible management of marine resources.
